  this is an offshoot from the jws then and now thread...it made me wonder what exactly people find attractive about the cult today?

  why are they joining?

  I think it's the lovebombing first and foremost. I also think that people are attracted to the seeming uniqueness of the religion. They buy into the idea that it is somehow different than other religions, and that they are somehow part of an exclusive club.

  Go to the gym?

  This is something that I did when I first left for good. I didn't necessarily make new friends, but it made me feel a whole lot better about myself. I also like the suggestion about doing volunteer work. Keep your mind busy on things that you enjoy, and the loneliness and negativity will subside over time.

  I would say that the bible is not a math textbook

  I beg to differ. With simple mathematics you can calculate that the Gentile times ended in 1914. Surely you're not suggesting that the WT pulled that equation out of its ass.

  i remember when i was a kid going on vacation somewhere with my family, my parents would always have to find out where the local kingdom hall was.

  god forbid we should miss a meeting because we were actually enjoying our time away from work and school..

  I go to Janesville and Dekalb for assemblies and conventions

  The last two conventions I attended in 2004 and 2005 were in Dekalb. They were in Madison for years before that. And the Janesville assembly hall brings back a few memories as well.

  as the evidence mounts, and fingers are pointed at the governing body for their complicity in the 'child abuse cover ups' ,.
